Hey! Don Skidmore here. I’m the Student Pastor and lead the youth ministries at Horizons. Teens live in a real world with lots of problems. They face struggles at home, at school, with their friends, in their dating relationships and with the person they look at every morning in the mirror. Teens need a place that makes sense of their world. They need a place where they can discover God and fall deeply, passionately in love with Him. They need a thriving Christian community where they connect with God and each other. They need a place that anchors them in truths that never change and shows them how they can make a difference in a world that is always changing. Teens love to have fun but they long for a faith that’s real and life changing. Many teens live to survive but we believe they can Live to make a difference. We’re committed to creating a place where that can happen. On Wednesdays we call that place Big God Youth Ministries and on Sundays we call it Vision Quest.
On Wednesday nights middle and high schoolers show up for Big God from 6:30-8:30 p.m. They worship with their own band and hear a message tailored to their needs. The evening is topped off with snacks and plenty of time to hang out with friends.
Throughout the week teens are encouraged to meet in a Life Group to deepen their friendships, support each other in prayer and translate God’s Word into action.
On Sundays, Vision Quest meets during the 9:00 and 11:00 services and focuses on introducing new teens to the youth ministry, launching new Life Groups and helping teens find practical ways to make a difference.
