Called and Sent: Joe & Abbey Barnosky are
Horizons Church’s First Full-Time Missionaries

From Mount Clare, WV ➡ Montclair, Kwa-Zulu Natal…

There are moments in the life of a church that bend history toward a brighter horizon. For Horizons Church, the commissioning of Joe and Abbey Barnosky marks such a moment — a season where faithful service meets a new frontier of gospel growth in South Africa.

Joe and Abbey are not strangers to God’s global work. Abbey’s drew many breaths under an African sky as the daughter of missionaries in Kenya, where she grew up among communities that taught her what it means to serve with humility and heart. Her experience as a certified doula and her deep love for women’s and family ministries give her a tender and practical way to meet people where they truly are. Joe’s journey largely began at Horizons as our youth worship leader for a combined 13 years, and has been shaped by creativity and calling — from youth ministry and audiovisual storytelling to a passion for using technology and media as tools to share the timeless truth of Christ with a world that’s hungry for meaning.

God has now led this remarkable family — Joe, Abbey, and their daughters Penny and Cloe — to Durban, South Africa, where their gifts and passions come together in a mission that is both ancient and urgent: to empower local churches, strengthen biblical witness, and serve communities with the love of Jesus. In a land where prosperity teaching often blurs the gospel, Joe works with churches to strengthen their media presence and sharpen their communication of sound doctrine. Abbey brings training and resources through Beautiful Feet International, equipping churches and individuals to care for women, young families, and those navigating the vulnerable seasons of pregnancy and postpartum life.

Their ministry, known online as Bar No Sky Missions, reflects a heart that refuses to settle for surface-level spirituality. Instead, Joe and Abbey walk with pastors and communities to build disciples — not just audiences — and to offer real hope in places where uncertainty and hardship intersect with everyday life. Their work honors both eternal truths and everyday needs, blending technology, compassion, and the steady rhythm of gospel witness in ways that reflect our Lord’s own heart for the world.

Horizons Church is honored to send Joe and Abbey as our first full-time field missionaries. We have supported short-term missions and global partners for years, and now we watch with joy as this faithful family steps onto the frontlines of long-term, life-giving ministry. We celebrate their courage, we share in their prayers, and we invite our church family to walk with them in every way we can — spiritually, practically, and faithfully.
