Sending Church Workshop
Learn How to Send Missionaries Well: The Sending Church Workshop
Saturday, January 24 | 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM | Kids Sanctuary at Horizons Lost Creek
Lunch Provided | RSVP by Wednesday, January 21
We're making history at Horizons Church! For the first time, we're preparing to send full-time missionaries from our own congregation. Joe and Abbey Barnosky are heading to Durban, South Africa, to serve with ABWE, and this moment is inviting all of us into what it means to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
But here's what we're learning: sending missionaries well requires a bit more than praying for them and cheering them on from a distance. It takes a church that knows how to care deeply, pray effectively, and walk with them through every season of ministry. It takes preparation, partnership, and practical tools to sustain those we send for the long haul.
That's why we're hosting the ABWE Sending Church Workshop.
Led by Ken Lorow, ABWE's Prefield Training Director (yes, the same ABWE that's sending the Barnoskys to the field), this 4-hour workshop will equip anyone passionate about the Great Commission with the biblical framework and hands-on strategies needed to send and sustain missionaries well.
What You'll Learn:
The Barnoskys in Durban with ABWE missionaries and a local ministry partnership family
What pre-field ministry really looks like and how to walk with missionaries through this critical season of preparation
What missionaries need to succeed before they ever step on the plane
How to build prayer and care teams that keep missionaries connected, encouraged, and spiritually supported for years to come
How to actively participate as a church in support raising, communication, and ongoing care
What other sending churches are doing to create healthy, sustainable missions partnerships that honor both the missionary and the church
This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to grow in their understanding of global missions, including pastors and committee members. Whether you're exploring a potential call yourself, serving in leadership, or simply want to know how to better pray for and encourage the Barnoskys and future missionaries from Horizons, this day is for you. We’ll explore Biblical models of missionary sending, and what the roles and goals are for each person in this partnership.
But we're not just exploring theory; ABWE has nearly 100 years of missions experience, and they’re helping us as a body of believers build a culture of sending that will shape our church for generations to come. The Barnoskys are the first, but they won't be the last. When God stirs hearts in our congregation to go, we want to be a church that knows how to send them with wisdom, care, and unwavering support.
ABWE has walked thousands of churches through this exact journey, and now they're coming to help us do it well. Ken brings decades of experience training missionaries and coaching churches, and he's ready to answer your questions, share real stories, and give you actionable steps you can take starting today.
Lunch will be provided. Come ready to learn, ask questions, and catch a vision for what it means to be a Great Commission church that doesn't just pray for the nations but actively participates in reaching them.
RSVP by Wednesday, January 21 so we can finalize catering and make sure there's plenty of room and resources for everyone!
